  • 1 box yellow cake mix Use a standard box mix or homemade version.
  • 3 large eggs Room temperature for better mixing.
  • 1 cup water Can be replaced with milk for richer flavor.
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Can substitute with applesauce for moist texture.
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder For the chocolate layer.
Frosting Ingredients
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting Store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 cup vanilla frosting Store-bought or homemade.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a round cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Mix until smooth and well blended.
  3. Divide the batter into two bowls. In one of the bowls, stir in the cocoa powder to create a chocolate batter.
  4. Alternate pouring the yellow and chocolate batters into the prepared cake pan; aim for a zebra pattern.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely.
Frosting and Serving
  1. Frost the top with the chocolate frosting and the sides with the vanilla frosting.
  2. Slice your delicious homemade zebra cakes and get ready to enjoy!

Notes

Store zebra cakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze unfrosted cake layers wrapped in plastic and foil.
