  • 1/2 tsp table salt
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup whole milk
For the Filling
  • Best taco meat (your choice of seasoned ground beef or other protein)
  • Fresh lettuce
  • Shredded cheese
  • Sour cream
  • Taco sauce

Method

Preparation
  1. Combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Mix them together well.
  2. Cut in the butter until the mixture appears crumbly.
  3. Gradually add the milk until the dough is soft and pliable.
  4. Roll out the dough and cut it into even circles for the chalupa shells.
Cooking
  1. Heat canola oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to prepare for frying.
  2. Carefully fry the dough circles until they turn golden brown, ensuring to flip them for even cooking on both sides.
Assembly

  2. Assemble your chalupas by adding taco meat first, followed by a layer of lettuce, cheese, sour cream, and a drizzle of taco sauce. Serve while warm!

Notes

For optimal crunch, store the shells and toppings separately if you have leftovers. Reheat the shells to restore crispiness before serving.
